Ordering Your Own Labs

Postby ChEMom » Wed Jan 07, 2009 1:03 am

I want to get this information out there for folks to know. It was just announced that the site mymedlab has come up with several sets of labs for STTM. But please be a smart consumer and shop around. For instance, the STTM Hashimoto's panel tests TPO and Tg antibodies, and costs $144, yet healthcheckusa has the same panel (AntiThyroid Antibodies) for only $70! Plus, this month you can get that for 14% less with the code: Thyroid14.
And the STTM Thyroid Basic Panel does TSH, Free T3 and Free T4 for the cost of $153, while healthcheck's "Thyroid Panel II" provides the same tests for a regular cost of $110, but this month it is only $85. The STTM ferritin test costs $45, but econolabs has it for only $25. And of course, for the saliva test (STTM Cortisol/DHEA) you can just order that yourself from DiagnosTechs at www.canaryclub.org for around $100, and save yourself $58.

I will do a better comparison tomorrow. Just want to give folks the "heads up."

Janet-i'm looking at the labs on healthcheckusa. Can you tell me which ones you think I should have done? I already did the TSH, and the free T3 and T4 through the dr.

Here's my sticky of Recommended Labs:

And I don't use healthcheck anymore because their prices really are too high. And since all of these sites use Labcorp, why not go with the cheapest?

I went to:

http://www.econolabs.com
http://www.privatemdlabs.com
http://www.healthcheckusa.com
http://www.mymedlab.com

Found Econo had the cheapest ferritin and Private were good for the thyroid panel (cheapest for TSH, Frees, antibodies and RT3) Sister is finally running some tests!

Econo had the lab sheet ready after sundown on a Sunday evening!? Must have doctors slaving away on the computer late. lol

I found the 15% off coupon for Private MD Labs via Google, and what do you know? One of our own members must have added the coupon.

So, when you order your own labs, do you then usually take them to your dr. to show them or do you treat yourself?

That depends on the lab results and the doctor. If they come back below or above range, than maybe the doc will pay attention.

And when you do show them to a doctor, they look real. It hasn't made the doctors I've seen suspicious about who ordered the tests.

That made me laugh!!!

Real....they are real aren't they whether a doc ordered them or not?

Maybe we could fill a market niche & make fake Lab results to order????

Well, I am thinking about ordering one of the thyroid/adrenal home tests online.
I understand how does the saliva test working: you spit and send to lab, get your results in mail. I am wondering how is thyroid lab working for home ordering? Do you take the order form to lab and draw the blood? Do you pay an extra fees for lab drawing, processing, and anything else?
Just wondering how is the home blood test working once you pay for it online?
Thank you.

It's very easy. All of these sites we've listed contract with Lab Corp, which has facilities all over the country. You place you order, and in most cases they just email you your lab request form (some use postal mail) and you print that out and take it to any Lab Corp facility where they will do the blood draw. No extra fees charged. Then in a few days you will get an email with your lab results. Some sites also send you a paper copy of your results via postal mail.

Choosing Thyroid Profile

Postby Nataliyc » Fri Apr 23, 2010 9:06 am

Dear All,

Here is my two choices of Thyroid Profile, please, advice which is the best to order.

1. Thyroid Comprehensive Profile:

- Free thyroxine index FTI
- T3 uptake THBR
- TSH
- Thyroxine T4
- Tri-iodothyronine T3

2. Thyroid profile:

- TSH
- Free T3 and T4

Question: Thyhroxine T4 and Tri-iodothyronine T3 are the same as T3 and T4?

I have my eye on the first profile,
Thanks for the advice,
Nataliy.

You need to find out if the T3 and T4 are "Total" or "Free". Otherwise, I'd go with the second panel. Also, econolabs will test both TPO and Tg antibodies ("Thyroid ABs") to rule in/out Hashi's for $99.

You can order from more than one site and just take all the lab requests at one time to the lab.
