How to measure Brain Fog / Concentration

Postby starbux » Thu Jul 29, 2010 3:31 pm

Hi, I am experiencing some serious brain fog and lack of concentration. Having been on a gluten free diet for over a year now, and I feel the fog is slowly lifting, but it's really really slow. I was wondering if there is some test out there to measure my brain fog, so I can figure out if it's getting better or whether I'm just imagining it.

My doctor will not put me on any thyroid meds since my labs are in the normal range. However I have so many of the random symptoms that are associated with hypo that I feel I'm most likely borderline hypo. If there are any supplements (non-glandular) that people have been using that have really improved the brain fog, I would love to hear about them!

Thanks!

If the brain fog is from hypo, then you would typically need thyroid meds to make it go away. It could be from a number of things, but if you have lots of hypo symptoms, that may be the place to start. Find a doc who will look at your symptoms and maybe free T3 and T4 and not just TSH. We can PM you a list of docs in your area if you tell us where you live.

Oh that would be great! I'm mostly in San Diego but can also go to Los Angeles.

I had read the section on recommended labs before, and ordered the basic ones myself online. From an answer to another post of mine, it sounds like my numbers do fall in the questionable range.

Thanks for the info!

Your FT3 is very low which is probably why you feel so bad. Although your antibodies fall within the "normal" range, it's not normal to have any in general so you probably have autoimmune thyroiditis which is common on these boards.

Anyway, I sent you a PM with docs in CA. Good luck.

Wow, good to know! I probably have Celiac disease so I guess it shouldn't be a surprise. I'll definitely check out those docs.
Thanks again,
